High in the Swiss Alps the days are shortening, there’s a nip in the air and the cows (and their owners) are getting ready to come down off the alp: time to remember and celebrate Swiss cheese!

On Wednesday 11th September we’ll be scaling the heights of Swiss mountain cheese at London’s La Fromagerie in Moxon Street (just off Marylebone High Street).

Together with Patricia Michelson, owner of La Fromagerie and one of London’s foremost affineurs, and Rachael Sills, owner of KäseSwiss which imports some of Switzerland’s finest, we’ll present some of the country’s best artisan cheeses. My job (apart from shamelessly plugging my two books Cheese: Slices of Swiss Culture and A Taste of Switzerland) will be to set the scene, telling a bit about the long history of cheese-making in Switzerland and – even more important and less well known – outlining the many exciting innovations made in recent years.

Apart from the actual tasting, the famous Fromagerie kitchen will prepare some seasonal dishes, including a classic Rösti, summer salad and mountain charcuterie, with a Swiss- style dessert and wines to match. You can find more details on the Events page of La Fromagerie’s website.

If you’re in or around London, mark the date and save the day – I’m looking forward to seeing you at what promises to be a deliciously pungent event.

  1. Have sent this to Brinley. Hope she can attend. It would be great for her to catch up with you after so many years.
